BLACKPOOL SWITCH-ON
The Brief
Since 2017, Blackpool City Council partnered with MTV to supercharge the historic Blackpool Illuminations Switch On – an annual live music event on Tower Festival headland that kicks off 66 nights of illuminations and activations in the city. 20,000 people gather ever year to join the celebrations so they needed an event partner that could keep the giant crowd entertained, engaged, and safe throughout the ceremony.
What we did
Year on year we have produced a range of performances from the mainstage that have gained national coverage. The likes of Diversity, KSI, Ella Eyre, and Tom Grennan have performed to the city, before enjoying the green room, talent village and TV studio facilities we have built for the event. The switch on moment itself displayed on giant screens and lightshow complemented with pyrotechnic fanfare, laser beams, confetti and fireworks.
We have maintained an excellent relationship with the council, police and community to ensure that the audience each year have a memorable, but secure experience from the moment they arrive.
In 2021 and 2022 the Switch On moment was transformed into an indoor gig at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom playing out live to a capacity crowd of 2000 and thousands via MTV’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
